On 10 March 2021 a second confinement period began in Mauritius. The initial period was set for two weeks but with so many positive cases the confinement was extended for another four weeks. Even though the confinement was not as strict as before, there were many homeless people on the streets and families who were unemployed or worked as casual labour. Construction sites were closed and fishermen are not permitted to go to sea. This left numerous families with no income and food running low.
The I61 Foundation worked with our registered NGO partners to support their beneficiaries during this desperate time. These NGO’s know those families who are most in need. Together with the support of the food wholesaler and distributor, La Trobe, we allocated funds to purchase groceries for the homeless and 354 food packs for families in 9 villages around the island.
Please Note: All information herein, in part or in whole, is that of the said NGO and not of the I61 Foundation. 100% of the funds raised will be allocated to the project. If you have any questions, we would be more than happy to answer them. Thank you for your consideration.
