NPO: ENL Foundation
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Project Summary
This project supported seven women who had joined forces and launched their catering unit which they named ‘Saveur Typique’. These women required a well-equipped and secure kitchen in a refurbished container within the compound of ‘La Maison Communautaire Nou Tou Ansam’ close to where they sell their delicious products to the local community.
Project Overview
ENL Foundation targeted unemployed and unskilled individuals from vulnerable families, with an aim to support them in launching their initiatives through empowerment. Seven women showed tremendous determination in joining forces and launching their catering unit which they named ‘Saveur Typique’. These unemployed women have been involved in small culinary events in their own region, while developing their own culinary skills and cultivating the idea to launch their own income generating activity. Since July 2020, the women have been selling local dishes on a pilot basis, and were able to secure a ‘clientele’ in their surrounding area. Unfortunately, the space they were using was narrow and not well equipped, they were limited in their endeavour. This project supported these women in setting up a well-equipped and secure kitchen in a refurbished container within the compound of ‘La Maison Communautaire Nou Tou Ansam’, successfully serving their community and surrounding area.
Project Update (May 2021)
Funds have now been received to purchase and refurbish the container. We will be working closely with Container City to ensure that the new ‘kitchen’ meets the needs of the women who run Saveur Typique in L’Escalier. We are so excited for them, to see this dream of theirs become a reality, and to support the ENL Foundation in this project. We will keep you up to date as to how we progress!
Project Update (November 2021)
The container is starting to look like a kitchen at last! After months of searching for a container and obtaining scarce materials in this post-Covid lockdown time, Urban Concept is doing a terrific job with the transformation. The windows and doors are in, as well as the electric rolling shutter. The counter frames have been soldered and the wooden panelling is creating a beautiful feeling. The ladies are so excited to see their kitchen taking shape. Soon it will be transported down to L’Escalier and delicious meals will be prepared for their customers. Thank you to our generous funders for making this dream a reality.
Project Update (April 2022)
The container refurbishment has been completed and has been transported to L’Escalier. The final plumbing and electrics have been installed, as have all the appliances. Now the foofing is being put in place to redirect the rain and connect the container to the main building to create a place of shade for the patrons to Saveur Typique. The launch of the new kitchen will be held towards the en dof May 2022.
