Project Summary
This is a collaborative project supported by Ti Rayons Soleil and the Livina Foundation.
Paille en Queue École Maternelle has been registered with the ECCEA (Ministry of Education) since June 2016. It welcomes 30 children from 3 to 5 years of age on a daily basis. In November 2019, the little school threatened to close, due to many challenges they were facing. Livina Foundation / Ti Rayons Soleil offered to take over the running of the school, as from the 1st of December 2019, so that the 35 children from Tamarin’s village and Cité didn’t lose their school, and the employees didn’t lose their jobs.
The premises from where the school is operating belong to the Black River District Council, and is really too narrow to welcome 30 children on a daily basis. The school was given permission to place two containers on the property and transform one into a classroom for the Middle Section, and the other into the Manager’s Office / meeting room for the different members of their holistic team. The fencing around the school is being redone to ensure the safety of the children is maintained. To date the containers have been refurbished and the roofing and fencing have been completed. Funds are needed to reimburse the school for the fencing and roofing.

Project Update (May 2021)
We have paid out Rs72,600 for the fencing of this project which was generously provided for by our funders. The remaining funds of Rs109,000 for the roofing are still being raised. We have Rs16,286.62 to date with Rs92,713.38 outstanding. Should you wish to contribute to the roofing of this little school, please contact us on [email protected]
Project Completion (August 2021)
The I61 Foundation was able to support the Livina Foundation as they stepped in to upgrade and and give new wings to Pailles en Queue Ecole Maternelle in Tamarin Bay, thanks to the generosity of our funders. This little school now has a new classroom and staffroom. Funds were raised to pay for the fencing, to keep the children safely in the schoolyard, and the roofing of the new buildings. We are so excited for these little ones to have a safe, spacious place to learn. Thank you!
